Do you know someone who constantly uses idioms, cliches, and expressions incorrectly? I do. And it drives me absolutely crazy. The Receptionist is always trying to use these phrases, and either uses them in the wrong context or doesn’t say them right to begin with.

Today’s example: “I usually just hunt and peck.”

She said this in relation to searching through a stack of paper. Not typing on a keyboard. Maybe I’m too bothered by the situation, but it makes me want to buy her a dictionary or provide a link to a list of idioms complete with their definition and proper usage.

We once had an administrator who constantly had typos –very interesting typos — in her mass emails. It initially annoyed me and then I decided to find it humorous instead. Some examples, “Make sure you whip down the conference room tables when you’re done,” “sorry for the incontinence” (multiple emails with this one), “explain assignments to the new employee because he’s only had two shi*s” (instead of shifts), etc.

People tried to help her, but it didn’t take. Good luck with yours!

I’m so glad I’m not the only one with this problem! I mentally critique these kinds of things all the time. I know someone who says he is feeling “droggy” when he means “groggy.” This same person calls a “pastor” a “pasture.” How hilarious/annoying is that?????? So glad I’m perfect. ;)
