death proof

10 October, 2007

Ryan bought Death Proof awhile ago and we finally got around to watching it over the weekend. I didn’t really care for it much at first because it was pretty slow [and I didn’t particularly care for the first set of girls because they were very self centered and self serving]…but I ended up liking it well enough. I won’t be watching it a billion times, but Kurt Russell did a good job as the bad guy, and Rosario Dawson, Tracie Thoms, and Zoe Bell kicked ass!

The whole point of this post is that I have the song Chick Habit by April March stuck in my head… They use it during the end titles of the movie and I’ll be damned if it’s not catchy. *grin*

hang up the chick habit
hang it up, daddy,
or you’ll be alone in a quick
hang up the chick habit
hang it up, daddy,
or you’ll never get another fix

i’m telling you it’s not a trick
pay attention, don’t be thick
or you’re liable to get licked
you’re gonna see the reason why
when they’re spitting in your eye
they’ll be spitting in your eye

hang up the chick habit
hang it up, daddy,
a girl’s not a tonic or a pill
hang up the chick habit
hang it up, daddy,
you’re just jonesing for a spill

oh, how your bubble’s gonna burst
when you meet another nurse
she’ll be driving in a hearse
you’re gonna need a heap of glue
when they all catch up with you
and they cut you up in two

now your ears are ringing
the birds have stopped their singing
everything is turning grey
no candy in your till
no cutie left to thrill
you’re alone on a tuesday

hang up the chick habit
hang it up, daddy,
or you’ll be alone in a quick
hang up the chick habit
hang it up, daddy,
or you’ll never get another fix

i’m telling you it’s not a trick
pay attention, don’t be thick
or you’re liable to get licked
you’re gonna see the reason why
when they’re spitting in your eye
they’ll be spitting in your eye

Now this song was recorded a decade ago, which amazes me. Anyone who’s seen Death Proof will understand why I feel this way. This song just fits the movie so well. Anyway, check out April March on myspace and give the song a listen if you like!

Definitely catchy! It reminds me of something from the 60s, ala “These Boots Are Made for Walkin'” I kinda like it! 😉

Glad you like it! It’s something different, to be sure. 🙂

That is a great song.. I saw Grindhouse in the theater a couple of days after it came out and loved it. It is espescially enjoyable to those of us who have seen real grindhouse flicks that were made in seriousness. So many little nods to the exploitation movie industry etc. I also liked the idea of making a slasher movie without the actual slashing. Good stuff

I think I would have like to have seen this one in the theater. We haven’t seen Planet Terror yet, though.

Seeing the whole thing in one shot with the previews and all is the best way. There are even missing reels and shoddy film effects.

I like Tarentino, but I thought Death Proof was horriable. All the characters were annoying, I wanted everyone to die.

Josh: They left a lot of that in.

Libby: I wanted all of the first set of girls to die, but I didn’t mind the second half of the movie.
