a little in the way of explanation

31 July, 2008

Last Friday, I received a frantic call from my mother saying that there was something wrong with my Nana (my great-grandmother), that it was bad, and that we needed to get to her. We rushed around, met up, and made the 2 1/2 hour drive.

I’m not going to go into tons of detail, but suffice it to say my Nana is slowly fading away. She is bleeding internally and any treatment would be very temporary and very painful. We spent the weekend in Independence with her, both at the nursing home and then the hospital. It was so hard to watch the strong, amazing woman I know in the condition she is in. I am so thankful that I was able to be there while she was coherent enough to recognize me and respond. It has been very difficult for me to be away from my family all week – I had only this one week left to work and it is expensive to stay in a hotel for a week.

I will be doing more posting soon, because even in this sadness there are rays of sunshine in my life that I want to share.

I’m thinking of you and praying for peace for your family. Call if you need to talk. I happen to be the mother of a little ray of sunshine if you need a pick me up……

    hugs to you all.
